The series is the third longest Marvel animated series, tied with X-Men: Evolution at four seasons each. It is the second animated series, along with Avengers Assemble, to change names during production after The Incredible Hulk. In season three the show was renamed Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors and the fourth season was called Ultimate Spider-Man vs the Sinister Six. It was the eighth series to focus on the character of Spider-Man after Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Spider-Man, Spider-Man Unlimited, Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, and The Spectacular Spider-Man. Similar to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, the show featured Spider-Man as part of a team of young superheroes. It was the third project directly inspired after the Ultimate universe after Ultimate Avengers and Ultimate Avengers II, though Spider-Man: The New Animated Series and The Spectacular Spider-Man were inspired and featured many elements from the Ultimate Marvel comic line.
